My Approach

Psychotherapy is a practice of self-reflection. Often it takes the presence of an attentive other to help us find an internal space where we can begin to witness and know ourselves. I offer therapy as a reliable place where you can slow down, really meet your inner world, and begin to relate to what you discover there. I bring a natural curiosity and non-judgmental focus to your story and your way of exploring and re-working its meaning. I listen closely for values and assumptions that may be governing your life without your awareness. We work together to understand the language of your symptoms and to find more direct and satisfying expression for what’s really troubling you.

Over time, you can begin to make more satisfying choices, be less at odds with yourself, and connect to others in a more genuine and embodied way. A deeper reward can come as you uncover your own way to live in the stream of life’s highs and lows and still return to yourself – your inner landscape, authenticity, sense of larger meaning and aliveness.

In our work together, we may talk about your feelings, memories, current life, or whatever feels pressing or concerning to you. We may also work with your dreams. Dreams are layered with psychological information. They can provide a doorway to your deeper instincts and give helpful clues about the nature of your struggles and how best to move forward. We may work with mindful practices to help you slow down, return to your senses, and access your imagination. I sometimes incorporate creative arts, sandplay, or movement as further avenues to connect to what is unconscious.

My style is emotionally engaged and direct but also patient. I work with a sense for what lives beneath the surface of our stories, trying to emerge and change us in unexpected or longed-for ways.
